judicial commission to look into the death the Arshad Sharif
A judicial committee will be established to investigate the alleged two-day-old murder of journalist Arshad Sharif by Kenyan police, according to information minister Marriyum Aurangzeb.
The communications minister announced that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has chosen to create a judicial panel that would be presided over by a high court judge.
She continued by saying that in order to gather information, the commission's head would also be able to appoint members from civil society and the media community.
According to reports, local police in Kenya shot and killed Sharif on Sunday night. A police statement later expressed "regrets on the unfortunate incident" and said an investigation was ongoing.
Initial reports in Kenyan media said that Sharif was killed by police in a "mistaken identity" incident.
A petition was submitted to the IHC yesterday asking the court to order the creation of a judicial committee to look into why the journalist was compelled to quit Pakistan and then the United Arab Emirates, amid overwhelming condemnation and condolences flooding in from many sources.
